What is disc lip?

Disk lip is also known as a slipped, bulging, or herniated disk. It occurs when the soft inner portion of an intervertebral disk protrudes through the tough outer layer, and can press against nerves in the spine causing pain, weakness, or numbness in the back or limbs. Disk lip can occur due to aging, wear and tear, or trauma to the spine. Treatment for disc lip may involve physical therapy, pain medication, or surgery in severe cases. Prevention includes maintaining good posture, regular exercise to strengthen the core muscles, and avoiding heavy lifting or twisting of the spine.
